Backwoods Framing & Engraving has grown from our roots as a small home based framing business to a full personalization business. It was founded on the thought that everyone should be able to have something made especially for them, either on the wall or on the shelf.
Expanding from custom framing, we have added laser engraving, mechanical engraving, sandblasting, vinyl cutting, and sublimation printing to our offerings. We can now make just about anything personal to you!
Weddings, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Baptisms, Confirmations all lend themselves to gifts more personal than you can buy off the shelf. Enter Backwoods! We have many gifts waiting to be personalized, or bring your own. We can help design your perfect gift.
Custom framing encompasses a lot. Prints, posters, collectibles, all can be framed. If it’s important to you, frame it! If you have the frame, and need a mat or glass, we can do just that part. Have a project you don’t want to spend a lot on? Our value line will meet your needs. Frames created with select frames, and in stock mats are priced by size.
Other things we’ve added are promotional products, Essential Oils, jewelry, and diffusers, and local prints and locally made greeting cards.
Luann and her late husband Jerry started Backwoods as a “retirement job” over 10 years ago. Due to demand, the timeline was accelerated and when Jerry got sick, the decision was made to move into the downtown retail space.
Being around from the start, Luann does a bit of everything from engraving, frame design, and mat cutting/frame finish. She mans the front office and is the general “do whatever needs doing” person. She’s the one you most likely will see when walking into the store. She is also the one in charge of the essential oils/jewelry part of the store.

Bridget and her husband Jeff joined Backwoods when Jerry got sick. As long time friends, they started as “helping out” and soon became full partners. Bridget, with weekend/evening help from Jeff, handle everything in the frame production arena. They cut and join frames in house, as well as fashion frame moulding from raw hardwood or barnwood. Bridget also does a lot of the frame design.

Michelle joined Backwoods several years ago, as a part time “fun, artsy” job. Within a month, circumstances changed dramatically and she quickly became a full time, in charge, part of the team.
She does most of the engraving and design, is the in house artist, is in charge of store layout, and was instrumental in bringing professional art supplies to Red Wing.
